Gouache on paper, 152 x 168cm, pigmented ice on shelves in 2 units, 2025
This painting depicts an abandoned American 1980s car with two child-like male dolls sitting in the front seat. Paint has been copiously splashed and dripped on the car’s exterior and interior by the African American artist and preacher Mary L. Proctor (b.1960). Proctor’s artworks carry strong religious and racial messages. This installation contrasts Proctor’s painting technique with the dripping and melting ice blocks I placed on shelves over it.
